SFTT ORIGINS: The Professor PART 2 by Girl-on-the-Moon SFTT ORIGINS: The Professor PART 2 by Girl-on-the-Moon
I'M ALLOWED TO MAKE SAD COMICS.

FUNNY ONES ARE HERE:
:iconsearch-for-the-truth:

Do comment. Comics that may or may not stir emotions are a new area for me and I feel a bit insecure. In case you couldn't tell. :B

Oh and thanks again to Hamish Steele who posed for man reference. AND A HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY TO JAMES!

2014 EDIT: I got rid of the phonetic "Scottish" accent because OMG it was bad and bad and I AM SO SORRY SCOTLAND I WON'T DO IT AGAIN I PROMISE. Just y'all keep in mind he's got a Scottish accent. Do that in your heads. Thanks.

Your art style and creative use of Timelord technology made the page way more clever and thought out than most other comics. You have a very special type of comedic timing that shone through even on a serious panel like this and gave it that mark of your style that just screams SftT. I understand that you're trying to make them very much Scottish, but we're at the point in the comic where we get their accents, and you're overdoing it a bit. Not every word needs to be spelled with an accent - it makes things very hard to understand. However, the message and storyline here was very clear, and I love how you do sidestories along with the main comic. Not only does it tie everything together, but it makes us think about all of the characters and how they tie in, bringing the comic to a deeper level. Overall, very well done.

I'm going to start with critiquing story and writing, since that's really what I'm good at for the most part.
I like the one-sided conversation at the beginning. Normally in that situation, it's a touch harder to pull it off well, especially in order to easily convey what exactly's going on, yet you've pulled it off quite well. It's easy to understand what happened, and it's done in a believable way. As James gets introduced, I like him trying to speak Universal (and that you have a universal language. Not many people do, I've found), before Joyce nixes it. It makes for a lighter moment in the middle of this more serious comic. I quite enjoy the story so far, and find it quite interesting. The only thing I'd be curious about is how the Angel got him off of Galifrey, considering I thought nothing could get in or out the time lock, yet that's relatively minor. With Joyce's accent, it seems to be a touch wrong in places, yet I have a feeling that's simply because I've listened to different people speak and there's just that different small difference.
I love the artwork on this page, especially in the larger middle middle panel. One concern with it would be that you have rain spatters even on his back, where there probably wouldn't be much (if any) on his back, where the rain probably wouldn't hit due to the angle of how it's traveling.
I really enjoy these characters in the 'verse. There're very enjoyable, and I can't wait to see more of them.

Yes, but his alias is Daniel Joyce. Calling him Ulysses off the bat would have been a giveaway to a lot of people.

So the other day I saw a drama which starred David Tennant (The Minor Character) and also had the guy who inspired the look of the Professor. I recognised him from your drawings and his scottishness. Sadly, the way the drama was filmed, he and DT didn't appear in any frame together.

I think this comic is really well written, but I'm still advocating against the phonetic accent. It really pulls readers out of what is otherwise a very compelling scene. In general, the goal in writing dialogue is to not draw too much attention to it. Everything but the meaning of the words should be invisible to the reader. If you make the reader focus on the form of the words too much content is lost. It doesn't flow.

Wow!! You definitely should not be insecure about writing the sadness and drama. This is spectacular. So happy you're continuing with the storyline. I'm super confused on how he ended up on Earth, but I'm sure it'll be explained later? Great dramatic lighting here, especially with the lovely rain. Looking forward to the next one!

Well, the angel just blipped him to Earth. No one ever said Angels couldn't blip people to other planets, and anyway, this is an angel who just gobbled up Drax's potential temporal energy! That makes quite the powerful angel!

I like the professor. He seems pretty darn interesting, and his sort of stranded-ness here is a great way to help with his introduction as a character, since it gets the viewer/reader/whatever to identify with him pretty early on.

I am finding the Professor very likable. He's exactly the sort of character I identify with: so far, even though we don't know much about him yet as readers, he seems eccentric and quirky, but kind of lonely with some pretty frightening events in his past that may or may or may not have some influence on his actions in later installments...

And I for one like how you typed his Scottish accent phonetically, and didn't find it difficult to read at all...

And Mark Bonnar is attractive, you would be correct in that respect. :D

All in all, good work! I really am enjoying the entire comic so far, and look forward to more! Your style is really interesting and unique, and it's kind of refereshing, actually. :)

Is it wrong that every time I see James my first thought is that I wish he was real so we could get married? XD
And I don't think this is necessary sad, just not jumping for joy. Plus, the comic would be no fun if it was all good times, you've gotta put the bad stuff in there too. :)
